Realty Income (O) is one of the most popular REITs in the world because it pays a steady monthly income and has hiked its dividend for 20 years in a row. But it has a few problems: its rent hikes are very small at around 1%, it is heavily invested in retail properties, and its valuation is not particularly cheap. We still think that O stock is a good option for retirees, but we think that W.P Carey is a slightly better option today, especially given that inflation is so high.
